The Hamilton Beach Travel Iron is number 5 on our list of Best Small Lightweight Steam Irons.
Who is it for? Hamilton Beach has a solid following in some parts of the country and this is the ideal appliance for loyal fans. It’s not the best travel iron if you compare it to its online competition, but its a basic, reliable machine. It’s perfect for the occasional burst of steam to help straighten out crumpled clothing when you’re on the road.
What we love! Super comfortable and easy to use, plus the brand name just makes you want to plan a beach holiday so you have an excuse to use it. We also love the cute, sleek design.
Good compact design, good performance and at a good price. The Hamilton Beach iron has a similar handle design to that of the Rowenta. We love this as it stores neat and flat yet when you lift the handle you have the feel of a larger iron. It also has the traditional stainless steel soleplate which we prefer over coated types as its easy to clean and lasts longer.
The brush attachment is a nice extra that none of the other models offer. It is quite handy if you frequently have to remove lint from a suit.

Small Travel Iron Features
Small Stainless Steel Soleplate
As mentioned above, the stainless steel soleplate is our preference. The plate has 8 small steam holes at the top that release steam as you iron to get rid of those wrinkles faster than with dry heat alone.
As the soleplate is mini in size, it makes it easy to press seams and other details that you need to iron around.
Good Steam Distribution
It has a continuous steaming function, but also allows you to flip a switch and seal off any water release. The steam burst button is positioned on the handle of the iron which makes it easy to get to when you need a little extra steam output.
You can also vertically steam garments. Ensure the garment is hanging on a hanger and pull the fabric taught as you run the steamer along the surface of the fabric.
Dual Voltage Functionality
The iron has a switch on the heel plate that will allow you to change between 120 and 240 volts. if using. When using the 240 volts setting, you must use an adapter plug. If you’re unsure what you need or what setting to use, check out this helpful table with requirements sorted by county.
Safety Switch-off System
As with all our mini travel irons, there is no auto shut-off feature, so be sure to turn it off when you’re done.
Steam Ready in 1 Minute
The 800 watt powered iron heats up in 3 minutes but is ready to steam in 1. Ensure the water tank is filled before you start. It can hold 2 ounces of wap water. When you’re done, empty the tank so that it does not leak while stored in your luggage.
The foldable handle makes this travel steam iron super comfortable to use both horizontally and vertically. Press the handle release button to snap it into position. The 8 foot power cord lets you easily reach a power source and work on a nearby surface.
Steam Brush Attachment
The steam brush latches on and will click sturdily into place. There is a release latch for when you are done using it. Always ensure the iron plate is cooled before attaching or removing it.
It can also be used as a lint brush. Be careful when using it on more delicate fabrics as it could snag or hook fine threads.
Variable Heat Settings
As with all irons, the temperature should be adjusted to match the requirements of the fabric you are working with. Even though it’s small, it still reaches high temperatures so be careful to avoid scorching or shining fabrics if the temperature setting is too high.
When unsure about the required heat for a fabric, always start on a cooler setting.
1 Year Warranty

Our Last Word
I first imagined the name originated from a glamorous location, Hamilton Beach, where women wore flowing chiffon sarongs by day and beautiful flowing gowns by night. In truth, the Hamilton Beach brand originally got its name from the first two employees of the company, Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Beach. and has grown to become one of the top competitors in the appliance world.
Their irons are reliable and this little travel steam iron is light and compact, all a traveler needs to keep outfits going-out-ready. It’s not our first pick, but it definitely earned a position on our top 5 list.
Word of advice. Don’t leave it on for extended periods of time, it is best suited for small bursts of use.
