Oliso Pro TG1600 Smart Iron with iTouch Technology Review

The Oliso made it onto our Best Iron for Quilting and Sewing review, as well as received an honorable mention for normal home use too.

Who is it for? If you love gadgets and feel like spending on something different, this is a cool iron with two unique smart features. Scorch guards, and an iTouch handle that guarantees you’ll never scorch anything ever again.

What we love! We just love the smart tech and the scorch guard feature. It took some habit-breaking to leave the Oliso face down instead of standing it up after using it, but I can safely say I’m hooked!

The days of accidentally scorching clothing, curtains or crafts are gone; in fact, the Oliso Smart Iron’s leading technology makes it near impossible to burn a thing.

But is it too techy? If you associate “the latest technology” with a complex appliance that’s too complicated to operate, rest assured that is not the case with the Oliso Pro. It has remained as user-friendly as a conventional iron … just with some awesome bells and whistles.

The first thing you’ll notice, other than its “cancer awareness pink” finish, are the elevated scorch pads. The iTouch Technology works by only dropping the iron’s soleplate to the fabric surface once your hand activates the sensors on the handle. Once you release the handle, the scorch guards are released and the iron will rise about half an inch away from the fabric or clothing.

Steam Iron Features

Scorch Guards

This is what makes this pink smart iron so impressive. The scorch guards (or feet) raise the iron from the surface so you can pause your ironing at any stage by simply letting go of the handle. No need to balance the iron on its heel. The feet of the scorch guards are stable and well balanced to avoid tipping.

If however, you want the iron without the scorch guards activating, this feature can be switched off.

Prevents Accidental Burns: Not just safe for your fabric, but safer for you too. When ironing, sewers most especially, time is spent flattening fabric or clothing on the ironing board in preparation for ironing. When the iron is placed on its side, exposing the soleplate, this inevitably results in accidental burns by bumping the iron. With the Oliso in its horizontal position, this issue is completely avoided.

Scratch Resistant Soleplate

The Oliso Pro has a stainless steel soleplate which is durable and scratch-resistant to ensure you have the smoothest glide over your clothing and avoid wear on garments and fabric.

Crafters…The center of the plate has a flat area with no steam holes which makes it ideal for fusible appliqué where you need a smoother adhesion.

2 Inch Detailer Soleplate Tip

The pointed detailer tip helps to get in-between layers and flatten seams, pleats, and pockets easily.

Advanced Steam Distribution

It has a specialized steam distribution system not just for normal clothes ironing, but ideal for quilters and sewers. It has a sprayer on the front of the appliance as well as 3 steam settings, including vertical steaming, that can be set to low, medium or high. (That’s 7 steam settings in total.)

This makes a huge difference when ironing clothes that are very dry with hard wrinkles. Fabric that is damp is much easier to de-wrinkle compared to dry.

Safety Switch-off System

If knocked over, it will automatically switch off in 30 seconds. An additional safety feature is that the iron will switch off 30 minutes from when your hand last activated the sensor.

This is particularly for sewers and quilters when you are moving back and forth between projects. It ensures your iron does not switch off and remains hot while you are working on seams and patchwork.

Regular irons generally have an average of 8 to 10 minutes before switching off.

The Multi-tasking Moms Dream: Ironing while cooking and managing the kids can be challenging. The safety features make the task that much less of a worry.

12 Foot Swivel Power Cord

The way the cord attaches to the iron with a ball bearing joint, allows you to iron in any direction. It swivels as you work so the cord doesn’t get in the way. This means you don’t need to reposition your ironing board, clothing or fabric to the direction of the iron, rather, the iron simply pivots around the detail without any snagging.

It’s ideal for both left and right-handed individuals and… it’s long enough so no need for a bulky extension cable.

Quick Start Ironing

It is a powerful 1800 watts and heats up in seconds. It has a green light just below the dial settings that will flash green when it is heating up and then remain on when the iron has reached your desired temperature.

If it switches off, the green light will turn red. Once you touch the handle, it will reactivate.

Easy Fill Water Spout

The side-loading water tank is simple to top-up, even while ironing as it has an easy flow spout. The Oliso uses regular water for steam ironing.

Some users have reported water in the water tank when opening their newly ordered smart iron. This is normal as all appliances are thoroughly checked and tested before shipping.

Ergonomic Design

Reduced shoulder, arm and wrist strain as it remains horizontal and does not need to be repeatedly tilted on its side as with traditional irons. Anyone with arthritis in their hands will love this smart design.

Improved Stability:  Positioned face down and raised on its scorch guard, the Oliso is so much less likely to be knocked over compared to a conventional iron in its upright resting position.

Color Options

The Oliso Pro TG1600 Smart Iron comes in 2 stunning colors, the popular pink and light yellow, butterscotch. FYI. The pink Oliso Pro has been created to shine a light on breast cancer awareness; this makes us love Oliso all the more.

Pros

  • Scorch guards lift the iron away from the surface, preventing accidental burns
  • Automatic safety shut-off in case of falling or 30 minutes of inactivity
  • Swivel power cord stays conveniently out of the way
  • Detailer soleplate tip irons pockets, cuffs, and collars professionally

Cons

  • Pricey investment
  • Scorch Guards can snag of fabric edges (The feature can be disabled.)

Our Last Word

Ideal for Quilters, Sewers, and Crafters: Firstly, the iron remains hot between sewing tasks! Next, it doesn’t drip even if there is water in a reservoir and can be used without steam. Also, patchwork is so much more rewarding without having to wield a heavy iron, and lastly, the detailer on the tip of the soleplate makes opening and pressing seams a breeze.

The only learning curve that may take a bit of getting used to, if you are used to a traditional iron, is leaving it flat on your ironing board. This iron truly makes ironing fun and according to the manufacturer, reduces the amount of time you spend ironing by 30%. We like those numbers!

Let us know what you love, about your pink Oliso Smart Iron once it arrives at your front door.
